City to have passport office next month

LUDHIANA : City will have a passport office by next month. This will make it easy for the residents, who have to rush to Chandigarh for queries and problems related to the document. People from the areas like Moga, Ferozepur and Faridkot will also benefit from the step.

Local MP Manish Tewari stated on Sunday that the building and other infrastructure for the office was almost complete.He said he was trying to get a senior central minister to inaugurate it. The building for the office is located in Rarewala Market near Bus Stand.

Tewari said the project had got delayed as Jalandhar and Chandigarh, both close to Ludhiana, also had their own passport offices.

He mentioned that it was only following persistent efforts that Ministry of External Affairs allowed opening of the office.

Tewari expressed his gratitude to the external affairs minister SM Krishna for conceding to the long pending demand of Ludhiana's people as they would now be saved of the hassles of travelling to get their passports.

"This is a great step as Ludhiana is located centrally and it is also the industrial hub of the state. The residents here also go abroad a lot, " said Dr Jatinder Mohan, a resident of SKS Nagar.
